North top-placed Blenheim driver
Blenheim super saloon driver Paddy North has finished ninth in a field of 29 drivers at the national championships which finished in Nelson on Sunday night.

Rain on Friday night forced the postponement of the three qualifying rounds to Saturday, with the finals moving to Sunday.

North placed second, eighth and sixth in the three qualifying heats on Saturday, putting him sixth equal with Steve Williams in the black group. He then beat Williams in the sixth qualifier run-off to book a spot in the finals.

The three race finals included the top 20 drivers from three qualifying groups and after a superb second in race one, North then place 16th and 12th, respectively, in the second and third races, seeing him finish ninth overall. North was fifth in the 2011 National Super Saloon Championships.

The national title was eventually taken by Hawke's Bay's Steve Flynn from Nelson drivers Neville Wood and Mark Carey .
